Townsend Harris Hall, which later became Townsend Harris High School, was a public preparatory high school for boys located in Manhattan, New York. The John P. Wood Notebooks for English Classes at Townsend Harris High School (New York, New York), dated circa 1917-1920, are notebooks containing notes by John Palen Wood from when he was a high school student at Townsend Harris Hall. Included are notes about American and English literature and writing exercises that Wood wrote for English classes.</abstract>

            <head>Biographical Note</head>
            <p>John Palen Wood (1903-2003) was a student at Townsend Harris Hall from around 1917-1920. Townsend Harris Hall, which later became Townsend Harris High School, was a public preparatory high school for boys located in Manhattan, New York that was connected with the City College of New York. Wood was born in Newport News, Virginia, and moved to New York to attend high school. He later went to Cornell University in Ithaca, New York where he earned a Master of Engineering in Electrical Engineering in 1925.</p>

            <p>The John P. Wood Notebooks for English Classes at Townsend Harris High School (New York, New York) dated circa 1917-1920 are notebooks containing handwritten notes by John Palen Wood from when he was a high school student at Townsend Harris Hall, which later became Townsend Harris High School. Included are notes for English classes that Wood took about American and English authors, poets, novels and poetry, as well as definitions of words. Writing exercises or themes written by Wood are also included.</p>
