Zines are a type of handmade, "do-it-yourself" publication that tend to focus on topics that are overlooked by mainstream media. Generally made by an individual or small group of contributors, zines are often in a booklet format, and consist of writings and images that are collaged together before being photocopied and distributed or sold for nominal amounts of money. They are often used to build and inform communities of people with like-minded interests.

Thomas Boettner is an avant garde artist who collects zines and, as of 2020, performs queer nihilist power electronica under the name Straight Panic.

Topics such as queer narratives, anarchy, mental health, social activism, the environment, kink, transgender experiences, police brutality, and sexuality are covered by the zines in this collection. Zines include short stories, poems, interviews, do-it-yourself guides, collages, comics, and essays.
