            <abstract id="ref1" label="Abstract">Sarah Morgan Bryan Piatt was an American poet born outside Lexington, Kentucky, but spent most of her life in Ohio. As of 2020, Sean Andres is a freelance volunteer researcher for various Ohio history-centric projects, including research related to the Piatt family and their castles. He also assists with research for the first biography of Sarah Piatt. Sean Andres Research on Sarah Piatt includes digital files of scans of newspaper issues containing published poetry by Sarah Piatt, and poetry written by other women about or in response to Piatt, between 1855 and 1860. All of the poetry by Piatt was published under her maiden name, Sallie M. Bryan. The collection also includes Andres' notes on how he located these and several other poems that were previously unknown to Piatt scholars. The files are dated from 2019.</abstract>

            <head>Biographical Note</head>
            <p>Sarah Morgan Bryan Piatt (1836-1919) was an American poet born outside Lexington, Kentucky, but spent most of her life in Ohio. Piatt's early poetry was published under her maiden name, Sallie M. Bryan, in the 
                <emph render="italic">Louisville Journal</emph>. Later in her career, she contributed to several literary journals and magazines, including the 
                <emph render="italic">Atlantic Monthly</emph>, 
                <emph render="italic">Harper’s Magazine</emph>, and 
                <emph render="italic">Scribner's Monthly</emph>.</p>
            <p>As of 2020, Sean Andres is a marketing and communications manager for the educational non-profit organization, KnowledgeWorks, and a freelance volunteer researcher for various Ohio history-centric projects, including research related to the Piatt family and their castles, Mac-o-Chee and Mac-A-Cheek, located in West Liberty, Ohio. Additionally, he assists an author with research for the first biography of Sarah Piatt.</p>

            <head>Scope and Contents</head>
            <p>Sean Andres Research on Sarah Piatt includes digital files of scans of newspaper issues containing published poetry by Sarah Piatt, as well as poetry written by other women about or in response to Piatt. The poems were primarily published in the Louisville Evening Bulletin between 1855 and 1858. An additional poem published in the Bloomington Daily Pantagraph in 1860, "A Dirge," is also included, accompanied by Andres' transcription of the poem. All of the poetry by Piatt was published under her maiden name, Sallie M. Bryan. The collection also includes Andres' notes on how he located these and several other poems that were previously unknown to Piatt scholars. The files are dated from 2019, and reflect the dates that Andres found the source materials.</p>
