The 328th Ferrying Squadron was formed as part of the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF), before becoming part of the United States Air Force (USAF) as a result of the National Security Act of 1947. The Squadron was activated on May 31, 1944, and inactivated on September 9, 1945, before being officially disbanded on October 8, 1948. The Squadron’s role was to ferry aircraft in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations during World War II. They delivered aircraft to units in the Mediterranean and ferried aircraft needing restoration to repair depots. Additionally, the squadron provided courier service to forward airfields for both passengers and mail deliveries.
