Stephen Henry Thayer (1839-1919) was a poet and editor. His estate, “Edgewood,” was located on the Hudson River in Sleepy Hollow. Many of Thayer's poems focused on the area around his home, “Edgewood.” His poetry was published in newspapers, magazines, and in books. Thayer also wrote essays on other authors and edited several journals.
The Stephen Henry Thayer Papers contains Thayer’s drafts of his articles, reviews and poems. It also contains correspondence both to and from Thayer. Cabinet cards, which may picture Thayer, are included. Materials are dated 1883-1916.
