            <abstract id="ref11" label="Abstract">Ugo Fiorelli (1893-1941) was an Italian naval commander who died when his ship, the 
                <emph render="italic">Aegean</emph>, was destroyed during World War II. The Ugo Fiorelli Papers include Fiorelli’s Gold Medal for Military Valor and an additional Medal of Valor from the Italian government. His shoulder epaulets from his time in the Italian Navy, along with a scrimshaw keepsake are included. It also contains photographs of Fiorelli and a photograph of an unknown woman at an unknown ceremony. A photocopy of his biography written in Italian, along with memorial postcards depicting Fiorelli with Italian text are included. A book in Italian titled "Le Medaglie D'Oro Al Valore” is also included. Materials are dated circa 1909-1940s, 1961.</abstract>

            <head>Biographical Note</head>
            <p>Ugo Fiorelli (1893-1941) was an Italian naval commander. He served in the Italian Navy from 1913 until his death in 1941. Fiorelli began his naval career as an Ensign in 1913 and rose to the rank of Commander. During World War II, Fiorelli was the commander of the ship the 
                <emph render="italic">Aegean</emph>. On April 24, 1941, the 
                <emph render="italic">Aegean</emph> was destroyed by the British Mediterranean fleet, and Fiorelli drowned with the wreck.</p>
