            <head>Biographical Note</head>
            <p>James F. Lohman (1912-2002) was a member of the 2nd Section of the 15th Special United States Naval Combat Battalion. Beginning his military service in April 1943, Lohman began training at Camp Parks near Dublin, California, before being stationed in the Marshall Islands. Lohman was discharged in November 1945.</p>

            <head>Scope and Contents</head>
            <p>The James Lohman Correspondence Sent to Jeannette Lohman While Serving in the United States Naval Construction Battalion During World War II contains 28 postcards and letters from US Naval Combat Battalion member James Lohman to his wife, Jeanette, while Lohman was serving in World War II. Lohman writes about his day to day non-military activities at his base in the Marshall Islands. In addition, the collection also contains one postcard and two letters sent to Jeanette from other individuals in the U.S. military. The collection dates from February 1944 to June 1945, with the bulk of the materials dating between February 1944 and May 1944.</p>
