The Collection on James Thurber contains collected material about James Thurber including articles about him, about exhibitions his work was in, and about dedications to him. Interview transcripts and recordings with people about Thurber, reviews of adaptations of his work, and recordings of people reading his material and performing his plays are also included. Materials are dated 1910-1913 and 1930-2012.</abstract>

            <head>Biographical Note</head>
            <p>James Thurber (1894-1961) was an American cartoonist, humorist, author, journalist, and playwright. He published cartoons and short stories in 
                <emph render="italic">The New Yorker</emph> and wrote many other books and plays; some of which adaptations were made. Thurber wrote over twenty-four books, thirty-six short stories, seventy-five fables, two plays, and nine posthumous books. In 1922, Thurber married Althea Adams and they had a daughter together, Rosemary. They were divorced in May 1935 and he married Helen Wismer in June 1935. In 1927, he became an editor for 
                <emph render="italic">The New Yorker</emph>. In 1930, E. B. White found some of Thurber’s drawings and submitted them for publication. After this happened, Thurber continued contributing both his drawings and writings to 
                <emph render="italic">The New Yorker</emph> until the 1950s.</p>

            <head>Scope and Contents</head>
            <p>The Collection on James Thurber contains materials collected by the Rare Books and Manuscripts Library at Ohio Sate University on the topic of James Thurber including articles, interviews and transcripts with people about Thurber, and recordings and reviews of adaptations of his work. There are also recordings of people reading his material and performing his plays as well as articles about exhibitions that Thurber’s work was in and articles and recordings of dedications to Thurber including Thurber Towers and Thurber Theatre. Items such as portraits, one drawn and signed by Milton Caniff, a bobble head, yearbooks Thurber signed, but was not in, and 
                <emph render="italic">Jabberwock</emph> rehearsal scripts are in the collection as well. Materials are dated 1910-1913 and 1930-2012.</p>
