Max Albert Goerler (1886-1962) served in the German Navy before World War I. After leaving the Navy he lived in Wilhelmshaven, Germany, a naval port town. Germany expanded their navy as part of an Anglo-German naval race between 1898 and 1912.
The Max Albert Goerler Photograph Album and Postcard Album Depicting Scenes in Various Asian Locations contains one album of hand-painted drawings on postcards and postcards of photograph prints, some of which are hand-colored. The postcards all depict scenes from Asia, particularly Japan, and are dated circa 1890s to 1900s. The collection also contains one photograph album, dated circa 1910s-1930s, with scenes from the Middle East and Asia. Some of these photographs include German navy ships, weapons, and sailors.
