Thompson, a lawyer from Ohio, discusses his legal assignments with the Allied Military Government, which often involved civilians. The transcribed diaries are in three formats: 3 1/2 inch floppy disks, a compact disc, and a printed copy, dated circa 1998 and 2006.</abstract>

            <head>Biographical Note</head>
            <p>Lockwood Thompson joined the American Armed Forces during World War II at the age of 41. He was a lawyer from Cleveland, Ohio. Thompson was commissioned as a Captain and sent to Naples, Italy, in 1943.Thompson worked in the Allied Military Government, most frequently performing legal work that exposed him to civilian life behind the front lines. He had later military assignments in England, France, and Belgium, serving until November 1945.</p>

            <p>The Transcript of Diaries Kept by Lockwood Thompson During World War II contains typed transcription of lengthy diary entries written by Thompson during his World War II service in the United States Armed Forces. The entries discuss Thompson's legal assignments as a lawyer with the Allied Military Government, which often involved civilians. The diaries are split into three sections: Italy, England, and France, corresponding to Thompson's geographic location during his service. The narrative of the diaries spans November 1943 to May 1945.
