            <p>William Warren Johnson was an African American sailor from St. Louis, Missouri who served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was known to be in the service from 1943-1945 and was stationed in San Francisco, California.</p>

            <head>Scope and Contents</head>
            <p>The William Warren Johnson United States Naval Service Papers contain correspondence, photographs, and Johnson's naval uniform, including hats, long johns, pants, and jacket. Some of the correspondence was not sent or recieved by Johnson. Some of the letters were sent by Willie Baxter, which may be Jonson's nickname.</p>
