Biographical Note

Ian Hamilton Finlay (1925-2006) was a Scottish poet born in Nassau, Bahamas. He published his first book, entitled "The Sea Bed and Other Stories," in 1958. Finlay published throughout the United Kingdom through Wild Hawthorn Press (Scotland) and Coracle (England). Finlay was the founder of Wild Hawthorn Press. Finlay became known for his work in the genre of concrete poetry after the publication of "Rapel" in 1963.

Scope and Contents

The Ian Hamilton Finlay Poetry and Artwork contains postcards and booklets of poetry and artwork, many of which have themes related to the sea. The items in the collection date from circa 1967-1989, most are undated.
