            <abstract id="ref18" label="Abstract">As of 2006, John Byrum is an artist and micropress editor; his wife, Arleen Hartman, is a feminist artist. The John Byrum and Arleen Hartman Artists' Books and Concrete Poetry date from 1987 to 2001, and consist of written and visual works created by either Hartman or Byrum, or by the two together as artistic collaborators. Hartman's poetry consists primarily of visual pieces, and Byrum's of alphanumeric written poetry; both are represented in this collection as artists' books, and as individual pieces printed on postcards or broadsides.</abstract>

        <bioghist id="ref28">
            <head>Biographical Note</head>
            <p>John Byrum (1952-) is a freelance technical writer, artist, and micropress editor from Ohio. He primarily writes concrete poetry, and has had his work published in many books and magazines, as well as small press releases. In 1986, Byrum founded the alternative micropress GENERATOR PRESS, which featured visual poetry, language poetry, and concrete poetry; it was active until at least 2004.</p>
            <p>Arleen Hartman (1954-) is a feminist artist who has taught art at the college level, and exhibited in galleries across the United States. She often works with her husband, John Byrum, by illustrating his concrete poetry and writing for collaborative artists' books.</p>
            <p>As of 2006, Hartman is a certified Reiki master and is married to Byrum.</p>

            <p>The John Byrum and Arleen Hartman Artists' Books and Concrete Poetry date from 1987 to 2001, and consist of written and visual works created by either Hartman or Byrum, or by the two together as artistic collaborators. Several of the artists' books were produced by Byrum's micropress, GENERATOR PRESS.</p>
