            <abstract id="ref3" label="Abstract">As of 2022, Alan May is a poet who works as a librarian in Knoxville, TN, and Tom Wegrzynowski is a studio artist who teaches at the University of Alabama. In 2006, they published 
                <emph render="italic">Notes Toward an Apocryphal Text</emph>, a book with poetry by May and illustrations by Wegrzynowski. The Alan May Poetry Proof and Tom Wegrzynowski Original Illustrations for 
                <emph render="italic">Notes Toward an Apocryphal Text</emph> date from 2005, and consist of a poetry proof by Alan May with comments on the poems by Joyelle McSweeney, and original illustrations created for the book in pencil by Tom Wegrzynowski.</abstract>

            <head>Biographical Note</head>
            <p>Alan May (1970-) is a poet who has written several books of poetry, and has had poems published in publications such as 
                <emph render="italic">The New York Quarterly</emph>, 
                <emph render="italic">DIAGRAM</emph>, and 
                <emph render="italic">The Hong Kong Review</emph>. He has also taught at the University of Montevallo, the University of Tennessee, and the University of Alabama. As of 2022, he works as a librarian in Knoxville, TN, and hosts a poetry podcast called 
                <emph render="italic">The Beat</emph> for the Knox County Public Library.</p>
            <p>Tom Wegrzynowski (1972-) is a studio artist who primarily works with oil paints. He has a Bachelor of Arts in both History and Art Studio from the University of South Carolina, as well as a Masters of Fine Arts in Painting from the University of Alabama. Wegrzynowski has taught studio art and art history at the University of Alabama since 2006; he still teaches there as of 2022.</p>
            <p>May and Wegrzynowski met at the University of Alabama while they were both graduate students; May saw Wegrzynowski's paintings on display in the campus's main library, and asked him to collaborate on future projects. Besides 
                <emph render="italic">Notes Toward an Apocryphal Text</emph>, they have collaborated on several other projects, including a book of poetry and illustrations called 
                <emph render="italic">Dead Letters</emph>.</p>
