Kay Boyle (1902-1992) was an American author who published over 40 volumes of work, including poetry, short stories, and novels. From 1963 to 1979, she held a position on the creative writing faculty at San Francisco State College (now University). After leaving the college, she held various writer-in-residence positions at different locations. In the early 1980s, she attempted to set up a writing prize in Nelson Algren's name. Algren (1909-1981) was an American writer who is best known for "The Man with the Golden Arm."
The Kay Boyle Correspondence contains mostly correspondence between Kay Boyle and Jan Herman, a writer and editor. The two discuss Boyle's writing and her attempts to establish a writing prize in Nelson Algren's name. Boyle sent several letters to various people and foundations asking for donations for the fund.
