Historical Note

The Avant Writing Symposium celebrated avant garde and experimental writing and was the second event of its kind. The symposium was held from August 19-21, 2010, in the Thompson Library at The Ohio State University. Organized and curated by John M. Bennett, the symposium included presentations, performances, papers, readings, installations, exhibits, and other events created and performed by artists across the United States and Latin America. The Avant Writing Symposium highlighted works of literary innovation and experimentation, avant garde writing, electronic and digital literature, multilingualism, visual poetry, performance poetry, Fluxus poetry and texts, collaborative writing, sound poetry, artist's books, cut-up text, concrete poetry, found poetry, mail art, and video poetry. The Symposium was sponsored by University Libraries and the Center for Latin American Studies at Ohio State University.

Scope and Contents

The Avant Writing Symposium Records contains email correspondence between John M. Bennett, contributors, presenters, and other individuals involved in the planning process between 2009 and 2010. Also included are receipts, meeting minutes, schedules, inventories, participant lists and submissions, awards, audiovisual presentations on compact discs and DVDs, promotional materials, publications, and other planning materials spanning from 2000-2011.
