            <abstract id="ref1" label="Abstract">Robert Reed (1931-1988) was the son of Jonathan Duff Reed, a navigator on Admiral Richard E. Byrd's 1926 flight over the North Pole. The Robert Reed "With Byrd in Little America" Project for Grade 7B Social Studies Class is a booklet created by Reed for a school project, circa 1943. The booklet contains a 3-page essay titled "With Byrd in Little America," a pencil drawn map of the Little America base, and black-and-white photographs of the research station depicting men, dogs, sleds, supplies and gear, a plane, aerial photographs, and pilot Bernt Bachen. Little America was an Antarctic research station located on the Ross Ice Shelf, first established by Byrd in 1929.</abstract>
