 Biographical Note

Frank Russell Chapman served in the United States Navy on the USS Wyandot during Operation Deep Freeze I (1955-1956). He died at age 51 in Hampden Highlands, Maine sometime after 1959.

 Scope and Contents

The Frank R. Chapman Papers date from 1950-1959, and consist of items gathered and created by Chapman over the course of Operation Deep Freeze I (1955-1956) and immediately after. This includes a dissassembled scrapbook documenting his trip, an abridged signed copy of Alone by Richard E. Byrd, an information packet for crew working on the USS Wyandot during Operation Deep Freeze I, maps of Antarctica, and a copy of the final issue of the shipboard newsletter from the trip, "Wyandots and Dashes."
