                <emph render="italic">Nunatak</emph>, camps, landscapes, plants, and animals from the area. The slides from 1971 were taken by Merrell, and document a return visit to the places he worked in Glacier Bay during 1965-1966.</abstract>

            <p>This collection is comprised of six separate sets of slides that are arranged in chronological order based on when the images were taken; some sets were taken at the same time, and these sets are further arranged in alphabetical order by a topical title given to each set by Theodore Merrell.</p>
            <p>Within each set of slides, individual slides were numbered and given captions by Merrell, and are arranged in numerical order. The sets arrived with some numbers missing.</p>

            <head>Biographical Note</head>
            <p>Theodore (Ted) Reed Merrell III (1948-2024) was a summer field hand for the Ohio State University Institute of Polar Studies at the camp at Muir Inlet in Glacier Bay, Alaska in 1965-1966. Following his time as a field hand, Merrell joined the United States Army in 1967, where he served as a paratrooper and machine gunner in Vietnam. After he was discharged from the Army, he became a commercial fisherman in Alaska.</p>

The slides dating to 1965 and 1966 were taken by Merrell, Roger Burnard, or Milton Trautman, and include photographs of members of the team, the ship 
                <emph render="italic">Nunatak</emph>, camps, landscapes, plants, and animals from the area. The slides from 1971 were taken by Merrell, and document a return visit to the places he worked in Glacier Bay during 1965-1966. Each folder in the collection represents a labelled set of slides from Merrell.</p>
