            <abstract id="ref10" label="Abstract">George M. Troutman was a regional executive in New York for Swift &amp; Company, which supplied the first Byrd Antarctic Expedition (1928-1930). During that time, Troutman worked and corresponded with members of the expedition, including Sidney Greason, who was the expedition's chief steward. The George M. Troutman Papers, dated circa 1928-1935, contain materials created or collected by George M. Troutman that mostly relate to the first Byrd Antarctic Expedition and document his connection with some of the expedition's members. The materials include correspondence, photographs, newspaper clippings, and covers, which are self-addressed, stamped envelopes that have been sent through the mail.</abstract>

            <head>Biographical Note</head>
            <p>George M. Troutman was a regional executive in New York for Swift &amp; Company. He lived in Bronxville, New York. Swift &amp; Company was a multinational meatpacking company that was incorporated in 1875 in Chicago, Illinois. During the first half of the 20th century, the company sold several kinds of meat as well as other food and household products. Swift &amp; Company supplied the first Byrd Antarctic Expedition (1928-1930). During that time, Troutman worked and corresponded with members of the expedition in his role at Swift &amp; Company. This included Sidney Greason, who was chief steward for the first Byrd Antarctic Expedition.</p>

            <head>Scope and Contents</head>
            <p>The George M. Troutman Papers, dated circa 1928-1935, contain materials created or collected by George M. Troutman that mostly relate to the first Byrd Antarctic Expedition and document Troutman's connection with some of the expedition's members. In particular, the papers document his relationship with Sidney Greason. Materials include correspondence, photographs, and newspaper clippings. Also included are covers, which are self-addressed, stamped envelopes that have been sent through the mail, that Troutman collected during the second Byrd Antarctic Expedition.</p>
