Biographical Note

Guy Carlton Hutcheson (1911-2004) graduated from Texas A&M University in 1933 with a degree in radio engineering. He then wrote to Admiral Richard E. Byrd expressing interest in his Antarctic exploration, and joined the Byrd Antarctic Expedition II from 1933 to 1935 as a radio operator. Following the expedition, Hutcheson moved to New York and worked for CBS News for a decade. In 1945 he moved back to his home state of Texas, established an engineering company, and became heavily involved in the Arlington City School Board, where a junior high school was named for him. The Hutcheson Nunataks in the Phillips Mountains in Antarctica were later named in Hutcheson's honor.
