            <head>Biographical Note</head>
<p>Rik van Glintenkamp (1940s-2016) was a photocopy collage artist, photographer, and filmmaker. As a child, he wrote to Admiral Richard E. Byrd and asked to accompany him on his next expedition to Antarctica, claiming he would not take up as much room as an adult draftsman; Byrd replied thanking him, but assured him cameras would be better to document the expedition.</p>
<p>As an adult, van Glintenkamp worked as a fashion and advertising photographer; his work appeared in magazines such as
                <emph render="italic">Glamour</emph>,
                <emph render="italic">Seventeen</emph>,
                <emph render="italic">Family Circle</emph>, and
<emph render="italic">British Vogue</emph>. He also directed videos and films for PBS. While storyboarding a potential television series about polar explorers, van Glintenkamp developed his signature collage style that brought together photocopied images of polar explorers, their artifacts, and primary sources on bulletin boards; these further developed into a series of seventy-five collages that were displayed together across the world as the traveling exhibition "Echoes in the Ice." The exhibit was put on at the Ohio State University Libraries in 2000.</p>
