He also served as an officer in the Navy during World War II. The George F. Kosco Papers, which dates from 1945-before 1993, contains photo albums, a VHS videocassette and 16mm film regarding Operation Highjump alongside footage of the Japanese surrender during World War II and a trip to the Arctic.</abstract>

            <head>Biographical Note</head>
            <p>George F. Kosco was an officer in the United States Navy who was active during the mid-twentieth century. He served aboard the USS Missouri during the Second World War and witnessed the Japanese surrender on December 2, 1945. In addition to his participation in an expedition in the Arctic, Kosco also served as a meteorologist and chief scientist of the United States Navy during Operation Highjump (1946-1947) in Antarctica.</p>

            <p>The George F. Kosco Papers, which dates from 1945-before 1993, contains photograph albums, a VHS videocassette and a 16mm film regarding Operation Highjump. The videocassette contains footage of the surrender of Japanese forces during World War II, a trip to the Arctic and Operation Highjump.</p>
