            <abstract id="ref17" label="Abstract">Dr. Erwin H. Bramhall was a geophysicist who was a part of Admiral Richard E. Byrd's second Antarctic Expedition (1933-1935). On this expedition, Bramhall collected data on seismic and magnetic activity in Antarctica. The Erwin R. Bramhall Papers consist of a scrapbook, a medal, correspondence, photographs, data and manuscripts documenting his work on Byrd's Second Expedition to Antarctica, dating from 1926-1979.</abstract>

            <head>Biographical Note</head>
            <p>Dr. Erwin H. Bramhall was a member of Admiral Richard E. Byrd's second Antarctic Expedition. Bramhall's role as part of the expedition team was that of a geophysicist. Alongside his four person team, Bramhall collected seismic and magnetic analysis data. Bramhall was born January 1905, in Sun City, Arizona. He pursued undergraduate studies at Stanford University, and received his Ph.D from Cambridge University, 1933. During WWII, Bramhall spent five years in the Air Force, where he attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He died July 1998.</p>

            <head>Scope and Contents</head>
            <p>The Erwin H. Bramhall Papers contain a silver medal, correspondence with other members of expeditionary parties and scientists, a scrapbook, and photographs and writings by Bramhall, including a field notebook documenting his work on Byrd's Second Expedition to Antarctica from 1933-1935. The collection dates from 1926-1979 and primarily chronicles Byrd's Antarctic Expedition II and its legacy through photographs, correspondence and the medal Bramhall received for the expedition.</p>
