            <abstract id="ref33" label="Abstract">Rendell Rhoades (1914-1976) was a biologist, curator and postal consultant, who as curator of collections at Cleveland Museum of Natural History traveled to Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego in South America near Antarctica as part of expeditions in 1953 and 1968. The Rendell Rhoades Papers, which dates from 1919-1986, contain correspondence, publications, maps, and postal stamps collected and created by Rhoades regarding Tierra del Fuego (in Argentina) and Antarctica.</abstract>

            <head>Biographical Note</head>
            <p>Rendell Rhoades (1914-1976) was a biologist, curator, and postal consultant. He received a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science in education from Wilmington College, and a Master of Science and PhD from the Ohio State University. Over his varied career, Rhodes served as chairman of the Department of Earth Science at Wilmington College, Curator of Collections of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, and numerous other positions. In 1953 and again in 1968, Rhoades participated in the Cleveland Museum of National History's expeditions to Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego in South America. He also served as an observer for the Norwegian Whaling Association.</p>

            <head>Scope and Contents</head>
            <p>The Rendell Rhoades Papers, which dates from 1919-1986 contains manuscripts; correspondence; publications; photographs of Greenland, the Arctic, and Antarctica; maps, and philately collected and created by Rhoades regarding South America, particularly Tierra del Fuego in Argentina, and Antarctica. The majority of the manuscripts in the collection are typescript and handwritten versions of his book 
                <emph render="italic">Tierra Del Fuego: Between the Straits and the Horn.</emph> The collection also contains correspondence from his wife, Nancy Rhoades, regarding his postal covers and postal stamp collection, and other work dating after his death in 1976.</p>
