            <abstract id="ref2" label="Abstract">Robert Gibbs was elected to the Ohio General Assembly in 2002, defeating Democrat Tom Mason of Ashland for a newly drawn district in the Ohio House. In 2004, he was reelected in a rematch with Mason. In 2006, Gibbs defeated James P. Riley, the Democratic nominee. Gibbs was elected in 2008 to the Ohio Senate and began his first term in 2009. Gibbs served as the U.S. Representative for Ohio's 7th Congressional District from 2011 to 2023. The Robert B. Gibbs collection contains digital files including awards, letters, a media archive, photos, and videos. Material is dated 2011 March 8-2022 November 15.</abstract>

            <head>Biographical Note</head>
            <p>Robert Brian Gibbs was born on June 14, 1954 in Peru, Indiana. He later moved with his family to Cleveland, Ohio where Gibbs graduated from Bay High School. He attended college at the Ohio State University Agricultural Technical Institute and graduated in 1974. He then moved to Lakeville, Ohio where he cofounded Hidden Hollow Farms. Gibbs later served as president of the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation.</p>
            <p>Gibbs was elected to the Ohio General Assembly in 2002, defeating Democrat Tom Mason of Ashland for a newly drawn district in the Ohio House. In 2004, he was reelected in a rematch with Mason. In 2006, Gibbs defeated James P. Riley, the Democratic nominee.</p>
            <p>Gibbs was elected in 2008 to the Ohio Senate and began his first term in 2009. Gibbs resigned from the Senate in 2010 after winning election to United States House of Representatives. Gibbs’ tenure in Congress stretched from 2010 until 2020. In 2013, Gibbs introduced the Reducing Regulatory Burdens Act of 2013 (H.R. 935; 113th Congress). The bill would prohibit the Environmental Protection Agency and states authorized to issue under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) from requiring a permit for some discharges of pesticides authorized for use under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA).</p>
            <p>During his last term Gibbs was chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. He was also a member of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, Financial Institutions, Real Estate and Securities Committee, Health Care Access and Affordability Committee, and the Insurance Committee.</p>
            <p>As of 2025, Gibbs lives in Nashville, Ohio with his wife Jody Cox.</p>
