Catherine Silverman worked in Senator John Glenn's press office, and later as his press secretary from 1975 to 1986. After receiving her degree in French literature and anthropology, she began working at Time magazine in New York. In 1975, Silverman moved to Washington D.C. to work in Senator John Glenn's office; her first job was sorting through his correspondence and fan mail. She became John Glenn's press secretary during his 1984 presidential campaign. One of her duties as press secretary was to coordinate Annie Glenn's schedule and public appearances during the campaign. In 1986, Silverman left her job in John Glenn's press office and later worked in residential staging for fifteen years.
