            <head>Biography</head>
            <p>Abram Jackson “A.J.” Shoemaker (1884-1959) graduated from Starling-Ohio Medical College in 1909. He practiced medicine in Columbus, Ohio, for over 50 years. Early in his career he was a physician at the Ohio Penitentiary, the state prison located in Columbus. Shoemaker was a member of the Indianola Methodist Church, Ohio State Medical Association, American Medical Association and other academic and civic organizations. He was married to Martha, and they had two daughters. Dr. Shoemaker is buried in Greenlawn Cemetery in Columbus.</p>

            <p>The collection is open to the public and is available for viewing in the Medical
                Heritage Center. Materials do not circulate and must be used in the supervised
                reading room. Restrictions, including copyright, may exist and some materials may be
                too fragile to photocopy or digitize. The MHC charges for duplication services,
                which must be performed by staff.
