Mary Ellen Corbett Wewers (1950-) graduated from St. Louis University in 1972 with her bachelor’s degree in nursing. She worked at Case Western Reserve University Hospitals, Lakeside Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, and then at a hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. Wewers obtained both her master’s and doctorate degrees, then returned to Ohio to take a faculty position at The Ohio State University College of Nursing working under the College’s first dean, Dr. Carole Anderson. In the late 1990’s she earned a master’s in public health from Harvard University followed by a year long research fellowship at the National Cancer Institute. Then Wewers returned to the Ohio State College of Public Health where she built a portfolio of cancer research and became the first associate dean of research. In retirement Wewers is still working on a research grant in regulatory tobacco science.

The collection is open to the public and is available for viewing in the Medical Heritage Center. Materials do not circulate and must be used in the supervised reading room.
