        <bioghist encodinganalog="545">
            <head>Biography</head>
            <p>Thelma Holmes first job at age fourteen was as a kitchen aide at Grant Hospital in Columbus, Ohio; then at sixteen she became a nurse’s aide. In 1951 she graduated from the Grant Hospital School of Nursing. She worked in multiple nursing positions before moving to the Upper Peninsula in Michigan where she began her career as a nursing teacher. She continued teaching in Indianapolis, Indiana, then returned to Columbus where she earned her bachelor’s and master’s in nursing at The Ohio State University and taught at Grant Hospital School of Nursing. In 1977 she became the director of the School of Nursing at Grant and oversaw the closing of the program in 1980. The final years of her career were spent developing and administering the Patient and Family Relations Department at Grant.</p>

            <p>The collection is open to the public and is available for viewing in the Medical
                Heritage Center. Materials do not circulate and must be used in the supervised
                reading room. Restrictions, including copyright, may exist and some materials may be
                too fragile to photocopy or digitize. The MHC charges for duplication services,
                which must be performed by staff.
