Margaret H. (Peg) Hines (1923-2004) received her Bachelor of Science from the
University of Cincinnati in 1945, then enlisted in the U.S. Women’s Army Medical
Specialist Corps as a physical therapist. After leaving the service in 1948 at the
rank of 2nd Lieutenant, she earned her Master of Science degree from The Ohio State
University and began teaching anatomy there in 1962. After she received her PhD in
student personnel administration in 1974, she was promoted to assistant professor in
anatomy; then associate professor in 1981. In 1975 she was the first woman honored
with the Medical Alumni Society of The Ohio State University College of Medicine’s
Professor of the Year award. Prior to Dr. Hines receiving the award it was called
Man of the Year. Her sons established the Margaret Hines Scholarship for graduate
students in anatomy in 2005.
