            <head>Biography</head>
            <p>Sallie Phillips Durrett Farmer (October 3, 1914 – January 7, 2003) graduated from JM Atherton High School in 1932. She attended St Mary and Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing from 1932-35.</p>
            <p>She served her country as a Captain in the Army Nurse Corps (1937-1946); was stationed in Bataan and Corregidor, where she was taken Prisoner of War in 1942. She received the Bronze Star Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge with two clusters, the American Campaign Medal and the Philippine Defense Medal.</p>
            <p>Upon her return from the Philippines, Sallie was assigned to the 5th Service Command at Ft. Hayes, Columbus, Ohio. While there a young reporter, Joseph Anthony Farmer, interviewed her. He too was a military veteran. They later married.</p>
            <p>In 1994 she was inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame.</p>

             <p>Restrictions, including copyright, may exist and some materials may be too fragile to photocopy or digitize. The MHC charges for duplication services, which must be performed by staff.</p>
