Sigma Theta Tau was founded in 1922 by 6 women students at the Indiana University Training School for Nurses. It was created to uphold high professional standards and to promote development within nursing. The Epsilon chapter of The Ohio State University was formed in 1932. As of 2012, the Epsilon chapter was still active at Ohio State.
Sigma Theta Tau Records (approximately 1 linear foot) is a variety of different materials related to Sigma Theta Tau initiates and members. Mostly, the scrapbook focuses on news clippings and photographs of nursing students and graduates. The articles and notes focus mostly on general information about the fraternity.
The collection is arranged alphabetically.
The collection is open to the public and is available for viewing in the Medical Heritage Center. Materials do not circulate and must be used in the supervised reading room. Restrictions, including copyright, may exist and some materials may be too fragile to photocopy or digitize. The MHC charges for duplication services, which must be performed by staff.
