Samuel Saslaw (April 26, 1915 – August 22, 1974) held four degrees: Bachelor’s in Zoology and Chemistry from Transylvania College in 1937; Master’s in Bacteriology from the University of Kentucky in 1939; PhD in Bacteriology from The Ohio State University in 1942; and, a MD from The Ohio State University in 1946.
Saslaw was a faculty member in the OSU College of Medicine, Department of Infectious Diseases. He published extensively in this specialty area.
Popular among the medical students, Saslaw was elected Professor of the Year in 1956 and received the OSU Distinguished Teaching Award in 1963. Other awards include the United States Army Award for Biological Warfare in 1962.
Saslaw died on August 22, 1974 and the Samuel Saslaw Professorship in Infectious Diseases was established at the OSU College of Medicine on April 4, 1975 in his honor.
