The Franklin County Association of Health Science Librarians was organized in 1972. The purpose of the Franklin County Association of Health Sciences Librarians was to promote knowledge and understanding of health sciences librarianship in Franklin County and better service to the users of health sciences libraries in the area through professional and educational interchange and programs and reciprocity of services. It became the Mid-Ohio Health Sciences Library Association in 1978. The Central Ohio Hospital Libraries Consortium was established in 1978 with the purpose to facilitate and enhance the availability of health-related information to the hospital communities served by its member institutions through cooperative library programs and services; and, to serve as a resource group to assist library development in presently underserved health institutions through participation in the consortium and its activities. The Mid-Ohio Health Sciences Library Association’s purpose was to promote knowledge and understanding of health sciences librarianship in the Central Ohio area and to provide services to the users of the health sciences libraries in the area through professional and educational interchange including programs and reciprocity of services. In 1998, the Mid-Ohio Health Sciences Library Association and the Central Ohio Hospital Libraries Consortium merged into one organization. The resulting organization was the Central Ohio Health Sciences Library Association. The first organized business meeting of the Association took place on June 25, 1998. The membership included persons actively working in, involved with, or interested in health sciences libraries in the Central Ohio area. The purpose of this Association was to promote networking and information exchange; to provide local opportunities for professional development; and to encourage and maintain interest in health sciences librarianship. The Central Ohio Health Sciences Library Association disbanded in a formal capacity in 2004.
