            <head>Biographical Note</head>
<p>Timothy R. Wallace was born in 1963 outside of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He had his first cartoon published at age 19 in
<emph render="italic">The Beacon</emph>, a local newspaper. He joined the staff of the
<emph render="italic">Beaver County Times</emph> (Pennsylvania) as editorial cartoonist in 1984. Wallace held this job while attending the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, from which he later graduated. On the advice that he needed savvy and to see the world to become a better cartoonist, he joined the Unites States Army. In July 1988, his comic strip "GI Bil," an embodiment of the modern solider, debuted in
<emph render="italic">Paraglide</emph>, a newspaper published for the Fort Bragg community. Assigned to the First Psychological Operations Battalion, Wallace served in Central America and Operation Desert Storm. He continued to draw the GI Bill comic strip and illustrate Army publications. His cartoons were used to demonstrate to Iraqi soldiers how to surrender, and were dropped by plane over Baghdad. After serving in the Army, Wallace became an art teacher in Pennsylvania.</p>
