The 24 Hour Comics Archive includes comics submissions from all over the United States, as well as Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Holland, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. The majority of the collection consists of individual comics' work that was conceived, written, and drawn within that participating year's designated 24-hour period. For identification purposes, event locations and artists' names were obtained from cover sheets attached to the individual works. Work received without a cover sheet was sorted and categorized based on information included in the comic itself. The collection also includes correspondence between event site coordinators and Nat Gertler of California, who received and stored the collection from 2004-2007. Beginning in 2008, comics submissions were directed to ComicsPRO, a trade organization in Colorado. After being processed and considered for an anthology, the comics were sent to the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum for inclusion in its comics collection.
