Hershfield is best known for creating the newspaper comic, Abie the Agent and worked for various newspapers like the New York Evening Journal and New York Herald-Tribune. This collection contains documents, articles, and photograph photocopies related to Harry Hershfield and the artist, Bert Levy. The collection also includes memorabilia related to Hershfield's best known comic strip Abie the Agent and biographical information for Hershfield and his close friend, Max Sax. Other photocopies include articles and photographs related to Australian artist, Bert Levy, best known for creating the comic strip "This Way Out."</abstract>

            <head>Biographical Note</head>
            <p>This collection contains the work of American cartoonist, humor writer, and radio personality. Hershfield is best known for creating the newspaper comic, Abie the Agent and worked for various newspapers like the New York Evening Journal and New York Herald-Tribune. Bert Levy, twas an Australian artist, who was best known for creating the comic strip "This Way Out." Jeff Marx is a published author on American Jewish foodways, collected this information on Harry Hershfield and Bert Levy as part of his research for a book on early 20th Century depictions of Jews on the Vaudeville stage, in silent films, and in comics.</p>
