Citation management software saves your time by helping you keep track of the articles, books and other resources you use, and helps you instantly format your bibliographies into the citation style of your choosing. On this page, you'll find information about two of the most popular citation management tools, EndNote and RefWorks.

RefWorks is an online research management, writing and collaboration tool you can use to collect, store and organize citations for multiple research papers and projects. RefWorks works with Word or other word processing software to create bibliographies and manuscripts in seconds.
RefWorks is available for free to all OSU students, faculty and staff through a partnership between University Libraries and the Office of Information Technology.

Please note: You will receive an email confirmation with your RefWorks username and password and the OSU RefWorks Group Code. Please keep this message. You may need the OSU RefWorks Group Code if you login to RefWorks from off-campus. If you do not know the Group Code number, click on Forgot your password? and RefWorks will email it to you.
Create an Account
To create a new RefWorks account, just click on Login to RefWorks and look for the link to Sign up for an Individual Account. A pop-up window will open in your browser, enabling you to enter your information.

EndNote is a research management software package that imports, organizes and stores the citations you find using research databases and library catalogs. EndNote also stores and organizes the full text of your references. EndNote integrates with Word to format citations and bibliographies instantly.
EndNote is available at a discounted price from the OSU Tech Store, WiredOut.

EndNote is a streamlined, Web-based version of EndNote that can stand alone or be used with the EndNote desktop software. EndNote Web imports, stores, and organizes citations, and formats citations and bibliographies using a Word plug in.
EndNote Web is available for free to all OSU students, faculty and staff. Users can create an account and access EndNote Web via www.myendnoteweb.com, or through the My EndNote Web link in Web of Knowledge.

Zotero is a free tool with both web- and desktop-based versions that allows users to easily capture citation information directly from their browsers. It includes a plugin for Word and other word processing software to let users to create bibliographies using over 6000 citation styles. Zotero allows users to create or join groups to collaborate.
