Dr. Kimberly A. Hamlin

Please join us for a conversation with Dr. Kimberly A. Hamlin, award-winning historian, author, and professor (Miami of Ohio) specializing in the history of women, gender, and sex in the United States.

We will discuss the suffrage movement, the current climate for voting rights and Hamlin's new book, Free Thinker: Sex, Suffrage, and the Extraordinary Life of Helen Hamilton Gardener (March 2020, W.W. Norton).

Free Thinker tells the fascinating story of the “fallen woman” who reinvented herself and became “the most potent factor” in Congressional passage of the Nineteenth Amendment and the highest-ranking woman in federal government. Copies of Free Thinker will be available for purchase at the event. They can also be purchased online starting March 17.
