Workshop level: Intermediate

The Research Commons Tableau and Surveys workshop follows the Tableau for Research workshop hosted earlier in the fall semester. This workshop series will help Ohio State faculty and graduate students:

  1. Organize and prepare survey data to efficiently and effectively analyze responses.
  2. Create engaging visuals summarizing demographic survey data;
  3. Explore strategies to present matrix question responses on one visual;
  4. Visualize open response or qualitative data.

Recognizing competing demands on time and participant learning preferences, the Research Commons offers this workshop in two formats: a four-week Carmen workshop series allowing participants to explore the workshop material at your own pace, or a 1-day boot-camp style workshop covering the same workshop material. On registration, you will be asked to choose which workshop format you prefer.

The Tableau and Surveys Carmen workshop series will run from November 6-December 5, 2023, with a new module being released each week. Each module includes a short video covering one of the four topics listed above and provides practice activities designed to help you apply what you’ve learned to your own research. An optional weekly check-in with the instructor will be available every Tuesday from 12:00-1:00pm via zoom starting Tuesday, November 14, 2023.

The Tableau and Surveys bootcamp will be held from 9:00am – 12:00pm on Friday, December 1, 2023 in the Research Commons computer lab. The bootcamp will cover the same workshop material covered in the Carmen workshop series, but instead of showing videos, the workshop content will be delivered live, and one-on-one support will be provided for practice activities and applying the workshop material to your own research data.
