While it is common to see journal articles in many disciplines with multiple authors, there are thousands of journal articles where over 500 authors, often many more, are listed. This science café will focus on the reasons why this occurs, potential issues that arise because of this happening, and alternatives to this practice.

Danny Dotson is a professor and science librarian in the University Libraries. Part of his research involves bibliometrics, the analysis of publications. A recent publication explored the reasons and issues surrounding mega-authored works, where 500 or more authors appear on a single publication.
