The Technology and Digital Programs division of The Ohio State University Libraries enables research and creative expression, teaching, digital preservation and discovery by ensuring continuous, secure operation of University Libraries’ technology hardware, systems, applications and platforms.

As a strategic partner, Technology and Digital Programs collaborates closely with diverse University Libraries units and university offices to connect users with the materials and tools, both analog and digital, needed to advance scholarship and lifelong learning.

Application Development and Operations

Application Development and Operations helps preserve and make accessible collections for University Libraries users by deploying and maintaining the Libraries’ systems and open source software. 

Application Development and Operations partners with University Libraries units and university offices to support the Libraries websites, content management systems and digital content publishing and archiving platforms to ensure users can access the right content at the right time, now and into the future. 


Digital Initiatives

Digital Initiatives supports the Libraries’ mission to foster, share and preserve knowledge and scholarship for current and future teaching and learning.

Digital Initiatives collaborates with other technology units, content curators and creators, and other key stakeholders to conceptualize and implement a modular framework and strategy for content creation, access, discovery, collection preservation and ongoing technology innovation.


Digital Preservation

University Libraries is committed to actively stewarding our digital assets into the future. Digital preservation is a comprehensive set of managed activities that are necessary to achieve that goal to provide continued access to digital objects, beyond the limits of media failure or technological change. The Digital Preservation unit, in collaboration with other University Libraries units, works within our Digital Preservation Ethos Framework, to develop strategy, workflows and tools implementation to mitigate the most pressing digital preservations risks and threats in order to safely steward our digital assets. 


Digitization

The Digitization program and team supports University Libraries and its many communities of users by creating high-quality digital representations of content from the Libraries’ analog collections. The Digitization team’s processes and techniques align with users’ needs for digital collections that support teaching, learning and research.

The Digitization team stays current with evolving cultural heritage digitization standards and emerging technologies so that they can provide the best possible images to users worldwide. Digitization partners with colleagues across Libraries to build reliable digitization project workflows built on a continual improvement model, delivering both quality and efficiency.


Information Security and Digital Risk Management

In partnership with the Office of Technology and Digital Innovation as well as other university partners, the Information Security and Digital Risk Management team works closely with the Libraries community to ensure the availability, confidentiality and integrity of technology services, data and assets within our organizational portfolio. The team also works closely with the stakeholder community to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices through the coordination of managing digital risks across University Libraries.


Infrastructure Support

Infrastructure Support maintains secure and stable technology infrastructure that enables University Libraries’ patrons to access the Libraries technology systems, applications and resources to accomplish their goals.

In cooperation with the Office of Technology and Digital Innovation and information technology departments across the university, Infrastructure Support facilitates the sharing and preservation of information, knowledge and scholarship.
