Summary |
- In 1978, Howard Brookner, director and film producer, interviewed William S. Burroughs for his film, titled “Burroughs: The Movie,” a documentary about Burroughs’ life and work. Side A: In this undated recording, Burroughs and his companions discuss a variety of topics including a possible interview, common acquaintances, such as Roger Richards, acupuncture, and their fondness for oatmeal. Burroughs is interviewed about several of his friends including Herbert Huncke, Allen Ginsberg, and Jack Kerouac. He also speaks about the birth of his son, his grandfather, and his family's financial history. He offers some commentary on wealth and artisitic ability. Side B: In this undated recording, Burroughs and his companions speak about desensitization to violence found in the film and media industries and society's desire to forget difficult times in history, such as the Vietnam War, with Burroughs recommending Michael's Herr's "Dispatches" as a source to discuss the war. The remaining time is spent debating authors such as Henry James, Thomas Hardy, and Marcel Proust before switching topics to exceptional films, with special attention being given to vampire motion pictures
