- In 1978, the Nova Convention, a three day convention meant to honor William S. Burroughs and his work, took place in New York City, New York. It consisted of readings, film screenings, concerts, panel discussions, lectures, exhibitions, and more. Side A: In this recording, dated December 2, 1978, William S. Burroughs takes part in a panel titled as "Conversations" with Brion Gysin, Timothy Leary, Les Levine & Robert Anton Wilson. The panel discusses a variety of topics, including science fiction, aging, their relationships and interactions with Burroughs, time, space, and obedience. Side B: In this recording, William S. Burroughs takes part in a panel discussion. This panel discusses a variety of topics, including telepathy, brainwashing, and cults. Burroughs also performed a short piece, involving his main character, Dr. Benway, from "Naked Lunch," which was titled "Benway" or "Dr. Benway." Throughout the recording, several screenings and literary pieces are referenced, including Antony Balch's "Towers Open Fire" and his "The Cut Ups, Brion Gysin's and Burroughs' "Dreamachine" and their "The Third Mind.
