How to Place Materials on Course Reserve

To place materials on reserve at one of our library locations, please click on the appropriate link found in the "For Instructors" sidebar. Once you have landed on the desired location, please download the appropriate PDF and follow the submission instructions. Any questions regarding this process can be answered by the location's Course Reserves staff person. Their information is listed on the corresponding location page. General information regarding time frame, loan periods and fines can be found below.

Time Frame

The time period in which it will take materials to be placed on course reserve can vary depending on a number of factors. If looking to place materials on course reserve during the first week of classes for the semester, and depending on demand, it can take up to a week to process them. If you list materials that need to be rush ordered, that will add a couple of weeks or more depending on how difficult the items are to source. If you list materials already checked out by another patron, they will need to be recalled. Submit reserve requests as early as you are able to, months in advance if possible, to ensure that all your materials are ready for your students on the first day of classes.

Loan Periods

Materials put on reserve can check out to students for different periods of time. The options are:

  • 2 Hours
  • 2 Hours, with no overnight check-out
  • 4 Hours
  • 1 Day
  • 3 Days
  • 7 Days

Fines

For Instructors: you may check-out your own Course Reserve items for an extended period of time. To do this, please ask for the location's supervisor and explain to them how long you will need the items. Please be advised that instructors are still obligated to the fine rules for Course Reserves. Those rules can be found here: https://library.osu.edu/borrowing/fines-fees-details
