Faculty Review Board

Purpose

The fundamental responsibility of the Faculty Review Board is to perform an Ombudsman function for members of the faculty who have been unable to resolve specific problems through the normal administrative channels. Formal guidelines and the review process are described in the Operational Guidelines for Faculty Review Board

Faculty members should be aware that the Review Board's role is purely advisory and is intended to provide a disinterested review of specific problems.

General Principles

• Any member or members of the faculty may petition the Review Board for review of a case.

• Each request shall receive prompt attention.

• A Review Board member shall not participate in review of cases where conflict of interest arises.

• The Review Board shall take precautions to ensure that the rights and privacy of those involved in any case are protected.

• The Review Board shall not consider a request for review while an administrative review of a specific problem is in process

Submit a Request for Review

Faculty members may submit a request for review to any member of the Review Board. The request should be submitted within three months following the final administrative decision regarding the problem. The Review Board may waive the time limit at the request of the initiating faculty member(s) if circumstances warrant.  See the Operational Guidelines for additional guidance on what to include in the written request.
