    Biographical / Historical Note

In the early 1910's Ohio State University's home football games became over-crowded. The construction of the new Ohio Stadium was agreed on and designed by Howard Dwight Smith in 1918. The Stadium Campaign was started in 1920 to raise pledges for the construction, raising almost a million dollars. The campaign targeted alumni, creating a foundation for the formation of the Ohio State University Association. In 1922, the Stadium finished construction with a capacity of 66,210. It was dedicated on October 21st before a football game against the Michigan Wolverines.
