    Biographical / Historical Note

Amateur radio, also known as ham radio, is a hobby in which users are able to contact people all over the world via radiowaves. Contact can be made with other operators by several modes, such as voice, images, text, and data. Ham radio can also be used to contact authorities in emergency situations, and to listen to radio broadcasts from across the world.

The Amateur Radio Club at the Ohio State University was started in 1926 under the callsign 8LT, which was changed to W8LT in 1928. It is the oldest licensed university radio club in the world. Members are FCC licensed radio operators, who are interested in simply talking to people across the world using ham radio, or in theoretical signal processing and electromagnetics. In 2016, the name of the club was changed to the Amateur Radio and RF Club; it is still active as of 2019.
