Ohio State University Archives Subject File: Brutus Buckeye (Mascot)

Ray Bourhis and Sally (Huber) Lanyon became students of Ohio State University in 1963. In October 1965 Bourhis and Lanyon worked with Ohio Staters to build a papier-mâché buckeye mascot at the Pi Beta Phi sorority house and debuted it in the Ohio Stadium at the Homecoming game. The mascot later became the official Ohio State University mascot, Brutus Buckeye.
